The annual Ride The Lights cycle event is a fantastic way to preview the Blackpool Illuminations at your own pace. The Blackpool Promenade from Starr Gate Tram Terminus in South Shore to Red Bank Road in Bispham is closed to all vehicles except trams and bicycles. The event is free and open to everyone.
Experience the Blackpool Illuminations alongside fellow cyclists, some clad in elaborate costumes and some riding brightly decorated bikes. Anything goes so long as your bike is roadworthy and has a functioning white light at the front and a red light at the back.
Participants are free to join or depart the route at any location.
The event is anticipated to attract approximately ten thousand riders to the town, making it a vibrant and enjoyable experience.
Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult, and it is highly recommended that all cyclists wear helmets.
During the event, there will be marshals, first aid personnel, bicycle mechanics and support vehicles available along the route for any help you need. The Ride the Lights event is meant to be and enjoyable bike ride for everyone and is NOT a race.
Unable to ride? The trams will also be operating so you can watch from the comfort of a promenade tram and still enjoy the experience. You can also walk along the seafront as pedestrians are also allowed during the event.
The event starts at 7pm with the lights being turned on and lasts until 10pm.
There will be a Ride The Lights hub at the Tower Festival Headland where there will be entertainment from the local radio station, Radio Wave and their DJs.
